The Disappearing Act

You could call it that, but I blame it on forgetfulness.

I've moved blogs, and never posted the memo here.
I know, I know, horrid of me.

Where All Your Dreams Come True

Merry Week After Christmas everyone! Did you brave the malls yet? I'll admit I did and it was fight to the death or dent for parking. All to return a pair of shoes. These past few weeks of the break have been crazy. Crazy but wonderful. It all started with a trip to Disney World. Isn't that a nice way to begin?

It was a great trip over all, though I think Mitchell was ready to come home after day two. But so long as he had his Nintendo DS for the bus rides between parks he managed just fine. We stayed in the Grand Floridian, which is Mom's favorite, and spent most of our time at Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney. With the holiday season, we were able to go to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, complete with a parade and firework show of epic proportions. It was incredible! The lights were stunning, hot chocolate was great, and they made it "snow" on Main Street. Quite magical if you ask me.

My favorite events were Beauty and the Beast (most of which Mitchell missed because of an emergency bathroom break) and the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review (of which Mitchell became quite the star, stealing the show in a moment pictured above). Oh! And Cirque du Soleil. La Nouba was incredible! I was just blown away!

Really, I couldn't have asked for a better trip. We had a few Mitchell meltdowns during Pirates of the Caribbean and the Little Mermaid show, but he eventually dried his tears and enjoyed the rest of the adventure.

Just thought I'd share a few of the highlights. Expect more regular/more interesting posts come 2012. And that's soon!

Until next time,

For Kids from One to Ninety-Two

This week, as I've mentioned one, two, even ten times before, has been packed to the brim with activities, studying, and picture taking. The latter I am incredibly pleased with because I haven't had much of a chance to break in my new Rebel.

Anyway. This week has been one Christmas event after another. With two "dead days" for studying, you would think us college students would have a little down time. Not hardly. Yesterday morning a group went Christmas caroling at a nursing home and then to the house of a former BUTheatre faculty member. Then in the afternoon after coffee with a friend, a group of the BUT Student Society went to the local Boys and Girls Club to deliver toys and make crafts with the kids. They were so excited to have us and we had just as much fun as they did. I had to leave early to make a meeting for study abroad (so excited!) but the rest of the gang stayed and enjoyed the time with the kids. I'm pretty sure this is going to become a regular thing.

Then last night between study sessions for our Theatre History III final, we went to the Annual Denmans' Christmas Party. Each year it is divided in two parts; freshmen and sophomores first then the juniors and seniors. It was wonderful. Good food, great friends, fantastics professors/hosts, etc. Chris read the Cajun Night Before Christmas and then Ethan and Jeff followed the tradition and swam a lap in the pool. There were the usual family pictures minus a few dear friends who couldn't be there. This is something I look forward to every year and cannot wait to go again next winter (even though then we'll be seniors and that's just crazy).

And there you have it, friends.
Until next time,

Christmas Time is Here; Inspiration with Gussy Sews

It's been a while since I've done one of these. {Gussy Sews} is one of the blogs I have followed faithfully for nearly a year and every Thursday she has a linking "party" for all kinds of inspirational finds. It is one way that I like to share my ideas, be forced to search and gather them, as well as stumble upon more blogs to delight my fancy.

This week's topic was Christmas decor. I don't have any good pictures of the decorations in my apartment because the living room has been overwhelmed this past week (see the below post) but I am pretty proud of it. Above are a few designs and pictures that I've been drawn to this season all found on my {pinterest}.

Just a quick share, so enjoy!

The Most Wonderful Time of Year; Winter 2011

It really is that time of year again! Classes are finished for the semester and now studying and procrastinating begins in preparation for finals. Of course, this last week and a half has hardly been a breeze. I was in charge of the banquet committee for our annual winter banquet and had many sleepless nights in a row because of it. With a budget of $50, 20 tables and a HUGE banquet hall to decorate, I was a bit stressed. But lucky for me I had Hannah and Claire, as well as another handful of talented, dedicated, and creative Druids (the executive council of the theatre's student society) to help me make it happen.

They gathered branches in the rain, brainstormed with me how to make a photo booth with just about nothing, untangled hundreds of Christmas lights, and joined me for a midnight breakfast to make tissue paper everything while watching White Christmas. And banquet was a success! It looked wonderful, people used the photo booth, we had time to get ready, and even with a catering crisis there ended up with enough food for everyone.

Last Saturday was also a busy, busy day for us. We spent the morning and afternoon doing banquet decorations as well as getting things ready for the BUT Class of 2013's christmas party. I was in charge of Secret Santa which I must say went rather smoothly even though we had a few stressful moments. Everyone was seemingly pleased with their gifts and it was a fun evening.

The group devoured my dirt cake in two minutes flat, I kid you not. I set it on the table and it was quickly out of sight until the bowl was licked clean. We had hot chocolate as well as chips and salsa, and  the group was wildly entertained with the introduction of a few nerf guns. A surprise visitor at the end left us confused but amused and then we parted to, you guessed it, make more banquet decorations.

And the last major event of this past weekend was Post Modern Friday! Post Moderns are a project that the advanced directors have every year and it has been my joy to be a part of one every year since freshman year. The directors are given a word or a concept to explore in a collaboration with their actors. The PoMo's I was in previously had the words BLOOD and HOME but this year the word was CLEAN. It was so much fun to work on and create with. The cast was wonderful, as well as our director, stage manager, and lighting designer. I love them all dearly and couldn't have asked for a better group.

And there is my weekend. I couldn't have had a better time with better people. These are just a few of the reasons why I love where I am. I am so very, very blessed.

Until next time,

Mindful on Monday Morning & A Hocus Pocus Halloween

Rarely do I wake up on a Monday morning with so many thoughts racing through my mind or the energy to accomplish all on my to do list. It usually takes until lunch (or sometimes even to Tuesday...) to feel as though I can conquer the world, or at least another week. But today, I am wide awake and ready to go. Hence the 8:30am blogpost. Since when does that happen? Oh yeah, never.

I just have the feeling this week is going to be big. It already looks full but not in a draining sort of way. My directing scene goes up on Friday, something I am both excited and nervous about, and I brought out all of my Halloween decorations this weekend. Time to spiffy up the apartment for this spooky holiday. But first, it's work then classes this morning, then a workshop/session with John Patrick Shanley, the playwright. So much to do and it's only 8:32 in the morning!

Also, this morning I came across a few verses that sat particularly deeply with me. I'm sure I had read them or heard them before but they met me where I am today and they are definitely worth sharing.

"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions... Behold you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart... let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have broken rejoice." Psalm 51: 1, 6, 8

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit." Psalm 51:10-12

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." Psalm 51:17

Wow. Just... wow. Isn't God good? He is ever-faithful! Praise Him for that because we are the impatient, flawed, and sinful ones and yet He still wants to use us and draw us near to Him. He is unlike anyone else and far above all.

Just a few things to think about this week. This busy, busy, beautiful week! Amidst the business are a few projects I am hoping to accomplish this week. Yes, I know, ACTUALLY making something I pinned on Pinterest. I feel like that is a huge accomplishment.

Red, Red, Ruby Red; Inspiration with Gussy Sews

I just love these inspiration days. Really. Not that I don't already obsess over pinterest but I am happy to dig back through my finds and savings to share a few of my favorite things.

This week's prompt is {RED}. When I think of the color red, I think first of Christmas then of hearts, love, Valentines, etc. And our front door back home (which I am staring at because I am home for Fall Break!). Here are a few of my favorite {RED} things this week:

This red leather bag, of course! And the outfit to go with... duh.

I think this Little Red Riding Hood costume is adorable! So precious.

This red polka-dot rocker is a MUST someday. Love it.

And doesn't this just look delicious! Next druid bake sale? Done.

Lastly, a little bit of Christmas. Beautiful red shutters.

Aren't they great? I am certainly feeling inspired now!
